Chapter 3. Members |

| Art.5. Persons who are engaged either in geophysical- or related
concerned professions, and who accept the constitution of CGS in accordance with the terms
of membership, are eligible to apply for the membership in the Society. 1. Individual Members Any individual with one of the following conditions can apply for an individual membership: 1) Scientists with professional positions which are equivalent to or higher than the grade of engineer, lecturer, and assistant researcher. 2) Postgraduates who have received a masters or higher academic degree. 3) Scientists who have completed a college- or university education and have been engaged in geophysical research for more than three years with a certain academic achievement and the. ability to work independently, or those who do not have a college- or university education but have had the experience with the academic achievement as required in this article. 4) Leader cadres who support the Society enthusiastically, or administrative cadres who have the qualifications of one the terms mentioned in the above 1), 2), and 3). 2. Foreign members Foreign geophysicists, who have high academic recognition and are friendly toward China and interested in cooperating with the concerned professions, can apply for a foreign membership. 3. Organization members Scientific research institutions, schools, colleges and universities, factories and large professional organizations with a sizable number of scientists who are interested in taking a part in the Society's activities and supporting the work of CGS may apply for an organization membership. |

| Art.6. Procedures for Admission 1. Individual member: Membership application, recommendation by one society member, and the approval by CGS or the local society are required. 2. Foreign member: Membership application, recommendation by two society members, and the approval by the Standing Council of CGS are required. 3. Organization member: A written application from the organization and the approval by the Standing Council of CGS are required. . |

| Art.7. Rights and Duties of Members 1. Individual members: 1) The right to elect and to be elected as an officer in the CGS. 2) The right to suggest and criticize the work of the CGS. 3) The right to take a part in the activities of the CGS. 4) The right to enjoy the priority of receiving periodicals and academic information of the CGS. 5) Observe the Constitution of the CGS. 6) Execute the decisions of the CGS, care for the Society's activities, and complete the tasks assigned by the CGS. 7) The right to write scientific articles, reports, and scientific popular books, and submit proposals for the development of the CGS and the national reconstruction of China. 8) Recommend and introduce new members. 9) Pay membership dues set forth by the CGS. 2. Foreign members: 1) Attend academic symposiums of the CGS by invitation. 2) Receive- academic periodicals published by the CGS on favorable terms or free of charge. 3) Pay membership dues set forth by the CGS. 4) Support the work of the CGS, exchange information, and assist the CGS to carry out international academic activities. 3. Organization members: 1) The right to suggest and criticize the work of the CGS. 2) Select representatives to take part in the concerning scientific and technological activities organized by the CGS. 3) Enjoy the priority of receiving the concerned materials, scientific consultants and services of the CGS, and request the CGS for assistance to conduct course training. 4) Observe the Constitution of the CGS. 5) Execute the decisions of the CGS and complete the assigned tasks by the CGS. 6) Pay membership dues set forth by the CGS. If organization members have not paid membership dues for one year without any reasons, they are requested to withdraw their membership from the CGS voluntarily. |

| Art. 8. Members may withdraw their memberships from the Society voluntarily. Individual members, foreign members, and organization members all are required to submit their requests for withdrawal in writing to the COS | |||||||
| Art. 9. All membership cards are prepared by CGS and numbered in a uniform fashion according to the provinces (regions, cities), and issued by the CGS with the CGS's seal. If the provinces (regions, cities) have already established local societies, the issuance of membership cards generally are handled by their local societies. | |||||||
| Art.10. Members who have violated the criminal laws or the Constitution of CGS will be deprived of the memberships upon the decision made by the Standing Council of CGS. | |||||||
