Chapter 2. Principal Responsibilities |

| Art.4. CGS assumes the following responsibilities: 1. To strengthen the link and solidarity among the geophysicists in China, promote friendly relationships among the geophysical organizations and personnel between China and other countries, organize academic exchanges, explore scientific undertakings at home and abroad, stimulate academic ideas and exchange research experiences, promote interaction among various disciplines, raise academic standards, and promote the development of various geophysical fields. 2. According to the demands of national economy, society and subject development, to organize the concerned experts to put forward their proposals and policy-making decisions for important problems on national reconstruction, scientific and technological policy and strategy, and enable geophysics to play a role in national reconstruction and scientific development. 3. To edit and publish "Acta Geophysica Sinica (Chinese Journal of Geophysics)" "Annals of the Chinese Geophysical Society," "News of the Chinese Geophysical Society," etc. and other academic- and informative books and periodicals. To promote the development of science and technology by various means, advance the knowledge, heighten the academic standards of members, and assist the members in broadening and widening their academic fields. 4. To search for and recommend qualified personnel, encourage the members whose attainments in scientific endeavors have been outstanding. 5. To popularize geophysical knowledge through various forms. 6. To carry out technical developments, consultations, and services by scientific and technical programs. To put forward and organize new and high-technology developments in geophysics. To accept the trust for generating scientific programs, to approve and promote scientific achievements, accept the responsibility of evaluating professional positions, examine and edit scientific articles and standards, and promote the transfer of scientific results to productive forces. 7. To set up and strengthen organizations of the Society, develop society membership, safeguard the legal rights of the members, reflect the suggestions and opinions of the members, conduct various functions to serve the members. |
