Chapter 1. General Principles

Art.1. The Chinese Geophysical Society (abbreviated as CGS in the sequel) is a mass academic organization, which is organized voluntarily by the geophysicists in accordance with all the concerned laws. It provides an important link between the government and the geophysicists, and assists the development of geophysical sciences. The Society is characterized by its nature of being inter-disciplinary, trans-professional and trans-departmental.

Art.2. CGS is a part of the China Association for Science and Technology (abbreviated as CAST in the sequel) and directed by the CAST. The CGS is supported by the concerned departments and organizations.

Art.3. CGS upholds a policy of reformation, openness and democracy towards various flourishing scientific ideas. It adopts a practical and realistic approach to carry forward academic democracy, set good academy style, unite and organize geophysicists to take part in academic activities both at home and abroad. The Society promotes the development of geophysical fields, achieves good results, trains and discovers qualified scientists, catches up with the world advances, and serves the reconstruction of China.
